We are Bart and Loes with our children Kae and Yuki.
He worked for years on flat roofs as an independent roofer, while she cut hair all over town – with coffee, cookies, and good conversations. Hard work? That was in our DNA. But one day, we asked ourselves:
"Is this it?"
The answer was clear: no.
Searching for peace, space, and a life that truly felt right, we set off on a journey – the four of us, in a camper. For eight months we traveled from place to place, listening to stories and letting life in. Along the way, inspiration struck and a dream grew: to create a place where others could land and enjoy.
That dream led us to Spain. In Coín, at the foot of the Andalusian mountains, we found a diamond in the rough: mature trees, birdsong, and a view that leaves you speechless. Not a ruin, but definitely a project. The potential was obvious. This was it.
The road here wasn’t easy. The purchase was an emotional rollercoaster. The mortgage turned out to be much less favorable than we were told, and our renovation budget quickly shrank. Still, we chose to push forward: no room for delay, all or nothing.
With help from friends, family, and new heroes, we worked four and a half months day in and day out to transform the finca into what it is today: Finca KaYu. Exhausted but proud.
Our children? They felt at home from day one. Yuki has already been at school for nearly four months, and Kae will start in September – full of smiles and enthusiasm. They experienced this journey just as fully as we did.
Today, we finally get to do what all of this was for: welcoming guests. Whether you stay in one of our rooms or come with your camper, the door is always open.
Our adventure is also featured on the TV program Ik Vertrek, where our story and the making of Finca KaYu are followed.
The foundation is solid. The rest? Gets a little better every day.
We are Bart, Loes, Kae, and Yuki – and we warmly welcome you to Finca KaYu.
